The Australian player defeated Elina Svitolina in straight sets to reach the
Miami Open final once more after winning the event in 2019.
The victory came behind a strong showing that saw her break Svitolina's serve 5 times en route to the 6-3 6-3 victory. After such a dominating performance she was asked if this was her best match in Miami to which she responded:
“Yeah, I think it was. I think [with] Elina, you have to produce your best tennis. Happy with the way we were able to execute today.”
Barty understood it would be a tough match against Svitolina against whom she had an H2H record of 1-5. Adopting almost like an underdog mentality if allowed her to play freely:
“With the head-to-head we had, I almost see myself as the underdog, I really do. It gives me the chance to go out there and play with freedom. To play not careless, but carefree tennis. And just know there’s not too much riding on the result. It’s about trying to stick to the process.”
For Barty, this result is an important one as she always tries to improve from one event to another.
“Every time you’re on the court you’re able to improve, try to get a little bit better, and grow every single day,”
In the final, she will face Bianca Andreescu, a player who worked extremely hard to the final playing, tough match after a tough match. It will be a very tough match agrees Barty who spoke on the matchup:
"I haven't played her before, haven't hit with her. It's a fresh one for both of us. But she's proven time and time again that she loves the big matches, loves the big tournaments, and has the game and the physicality to win them."
