Dominic Thiem ended his season a bit early failing short of his goal of returning to the top 100 but he'll return at the start of December.
Thiem played 19 events this year with only the latter half of the year offering signs of optimism. He came fairly close to his former self in the past few weeks indoors but he called time early on his season to recover after some exhausting weeks.
In an interview with the Kleine Zeitung in Vienna, Thiem said:
“It’s been exhausting the last few weeks. I have played a lot since July. Therefore, the season is over for
me. Also because I received good news from the ATP. I have 550 points,
so the Australian Open should work out. If I can do that, it doesn’t
matter if I [don’t] finish [the year] in the top 100.”
Asked what his preparation for the season will look like, Thiem replied:
“I will put full focus on the preparation so that I will be ready early for the 2023 season. At the beginning of December I will fly to the Emirates, do the preparations there and from there to Australia.”
