ATP Rankings Update: Jannik Sinner continues dominance at the top, Alexander Blockx breaks new ground as French title winners climb

As the tennis world prepares for another venture to North America with a return to hardcourt imminent, the final events on European soil have been played out with the last ranking points on offer handed out to the fortunate players capitalising on this situation.

None of the top 10 were in action, making it a rather dormant week at the top of the tree. Jannik Sinner leads by just under 5,000 points to Alexander Zverev. It is fair to say that the Italian will be there for a while.

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the players under pressure to defend a number of points. 3,000 will come off with title defences at the Cincinnati Open and US Open coming up amid fitness concerns. This could give a chance to Felix Auger-Aliassime in fourth to break new ground. As the players prepare for the DC Open, there has been a bit of movement, Novak Djokovic rises up to fifth with defending champion Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton marginally dropping down.

Flavio Cobolli and Taylor Fritz complete the top 10 with Alexander Bublik missing the chance to close that gap. The Kazakhstani has been one of the top players competing this week, and has lost out following a defeat in the final of the Kitzbuhel Open.

Aside from that not too much else occurring. The 2025 DC Open runner-up Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has dropped five players while anticipated an important week in the USA.

Over in Portugal, the Estoril Open was being played out with some very noticeable names in action. One of which was Alexander Blockx, one of tennis' breakout stars in 2026. He had a dramatic week, but just fell short in the end. The points earned have been enough to see him debut in the top 32, a huge achievement at a pivotal time with some huge tournaments on the horizon that he can benefit from.

Yannik Hanfmann rose seven places after his semi-final run in Austria to 45th in the world while just behind him, two French talents won their maiden ATP Tour title and reaped the rewards.

First up was Quentin Halys who disposed of Bublik expertly and impressively on Saturday. While not a career high, the 52nd he completed the week in is a stark improvement from lingering lower down the rankings.

Backing that up the next day with more French success was a certain Luca van Assche. After breaking into the top 100 in February, he is now officially a top 50 player. 30 places were climbed after defeating the likes of Andrey Rublev and fellow countryman Hugo Gaston before Blockx was disposed to win the Estoril Open.

It was not all joy for French tennis player. Terence Atmane (-7) and Corentin Moutet (-17) lost out big time. Aside from that, the other notable riser was Gaston as he settles back in the top 100 after gaining 19 places. As the weeks go on, the rankings is poised to be shaken up greatly with some huge tournaments on the horizon.
