The ATP Rankings have finally been updated after the latest week of action with the Cincinnati Open next up after the Canadian Open and for Ben Shelton and Karen Khachanov, it has certainly been a week to remember. Jannik Sinner also leads the way still by some distance.
With Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper opting to skip the tournament in Montreal, chances were high that there would be a first time winner and Shelton who has often shone but not picked up a reward did so this time. He saw off Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov en route in his final three matches. The American who only made his top 10 debut in June already started at a career high of World No.7 but earning 800 points (not the full quota as he was defending points anyway), he rose to World No.6 with Novak Djokovic falling one spot. With only 200 points to defend at the upcoming Cincinnati Open, the top five is there for him to break into as he approaches the US Open.
Djokovic in particular will be left in the dust as he has decided to skip both tournaments in the run up to the US Open. Albeit he is not really a player who cares too much about rankings at this point of his career. Jack Draper also won't play until the US Open and has a semi-final appearance to defend this year. For now the top five is unchanged with Jannik Sinner reaching a 61st consecutive week as World No.1. Carlos Alcaraz is in the dust behind him 3,440 points behind in second place and Alexander Zverev 2,210 points adrift. Fritz is in fourth while Draper is fifth.
Sinner though might not be World No.1 going into the back end of the season. He will drop 3,000 points after Cincinnati and US Open while Alcaraz lost early at both tournaments so he only has points to gain instead of giving them up. Albeit Zverev had World No.1 begging after the Australian Open with Sinner's ban and couldn't do the simple so who knows. Also Alcaraz has previously ascended towards World No.1 and faltered during the Asian swing which is where he would likely take over. So an interesting few months await.
Zverev could've edged closer to Alcaraz but also faltered as he lost in the semi-finals to Khachanov. The Russian has a career high of World No.8 but is back towards the top 10 reaching World No.12 after finishing runner up. Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev complete the top 10 in front of Khachanov.

Popyrin rises as Korda plummets

Other movers this week include Alexei Popyrin who is up seven spots to World No.19, while Sebastian Korda who lost in the semi-finals against Popyrin last year has slipped to World No.42. He has struggled all season with injury and continues to do so. He couldn't play in Montreal and as a result falls. Arthur Fils played for the first time since Roland Garros and is up to World No.20 up one spot as an injured Grigor Dimitrov continues to fall down the trap door. Flavio Cobolli too is down five spots to World No.22.
Others to fall include Tomas Machac (#24), Ugo Humbert (#25), and Alexander Bublik are all down two spots each from their original spots. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Brandon Nakashima, Alex Michelsen, Luciano Darderi and Gabriel Diallo are among those who rise as a result of falls sitting inside the top 35. Lorenzo Sonego too is up two spots, Matteo Arnaldi and Nuno Borges are up four spots each inside the top 40. Jordan Thompson has plummeted down six spots to World No.50 to complete the top spots.
