ATP Rankings Update: Zverev closes the gap to Sinner as Djokovic leaves top 10

The US Open is over, and that is a wrap for all Grand Slam action in 2026. It has been a dramatic couple of weeks with the best players in the world challenging for the major accolades in New York. With all these names in action, subsequently a lot of ranking points will be handed out, lending to a lot of movement in the ATP Rankings.

That is not the case right at the top despite Jannik Sinner not featuring. The World No.1 still has a huge lead over his rivals, but that gap has been slashed massively following Alexander Zverev winning a first US Open title and second Grand Slam title.

The German is over 4,000 points ahead of Carlos Alcaraz despite his quarter-final run. The 2025 winner's progress was halted against Ben Shelton who competed in a maiden Grand Slam final. However, he was unable to break new ground. That is not the case in the rankings with the 23-year-old climbing into a career high of fourth in the world.

750 points were deducted off Felix Auger-Alisassime’s tally as he fell to fifth with Daniil Medvedev up to sixth. Flavio Cobolli drops to seventh, with semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe returning to the top 10 in a new career high of eighth. Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz conclude the top 10 with Arthur Fils not managing to find that spark in New York to break new ground.

While the Frenchman’s trajectory is up, Novak Djokovic is sliding. The 24-time Grand Slam champion exited in the first round of a major event for the first time in over two decades. His points from last year’s semi-final run have been disregarded, and he sits in 12th. It is the first time since 2002 that none of the ‘Big Three’ has been in the top 10, and for Djokovic, a huge blow with his tennis career having never been in more doubt.

Lorenzo Musetti is on the brink of exiting the top 20 with his injury-ravaged season spelling an end to his brief time among the elite for the time being. It seemed the same for Karen Khachanov after a huge downfall following the Canadian Open. Nevertheless, a semi-final result at Flushing Meadows is a brilliant run by the Russian as he clambers back into the top 32, 24 places gained to end up in 26th.

Just behind him is Alexander Blockx who lost to Khachanov in a maiden major quarter-final. A career high of 27th in the world is a deserved spot for the 21-year-old to be placed. Another young talent who is starting to establish himself is Alex Michelseon. He was two sets and a break up against Tiafoe and was closing in on a semi-final berth. That would not occur, and while he has gained 12 spots to 34th, he will feel like there was more in the tank.

A contrasting exit at that stage for Botic Ven de Zandschulp who lost to Zverev in straight sets. He climbed an astonishing 30 positions to 40th. Stefanos Tsitsipas found his old self in New York, showing flashes of his past that used to challenge for these titles. It was a personal best run at the US Open to the fourth round.

There were huge rises for Arthur Gea (+24 to 63rd), Michael Zheng (+19 to 88th), Toby Samuel (+15 to 95th) and Yibing Wu (+13 to 100th.)

Going the other way were Jan Lennard Struff (-21 to 65th), Jaume Munar (-13 to 68th), Tomas Machac (-16 to 74th) and Adrian Mannarino (-12 to 79th). Further down the list, Jack Draper continues to plummet following his withdrawal from the US Open. Now 155th in the world, there is a lot of work to do for the former World No.4.
