ATP Rankings Update: Zverev leapfrogs Alcaraz ahead of US Open as Fils on brink of top 10 debut after title

We have come to the end of a double header of Masters 1000 events in North America with the Cincinnati Open not just providing entertainment but a lot of storylines and ranking movement in the ATP Rankings.

While there has been no change at No.1, there has been a shuffle underneath. Jannik Sinner remains miles clear of everyone else with Alexander Zverev back at number two with Alcaraz sacrificing the 1000 points from his Cincinnati Open title last year. This gap has the potential to increase with another 2000 on the line for the Spaniard at Flushing Meadows.

Felix Auger-Aliassime and Novak Djokovic come in at fourth and fifth. These rankings benefit them for the US Open as they avoid the top two until at least the semi-finals.

Flavio Cobolli enjoyed an impressive run to the last-four in Ohio, bumping him up to a new career high of sixth in the world. Canadian Open champion Ben Shelton leads the American contingent with Taylor Fritz on the cusp of a top 10 exit.

It seems like a long awaited Masters 1000 title for Arthur Fils who got over the line against Frances Tiafoe in Cincinnati Open. Both began the final in 11th and 12th with Fritz too far off for any top 10 entrances. It was Fils who got the coveted 11th spot, a new career high as he gained 10 spots. Tiafoe also made a lot of progress with his second Cincinnati final defeat, planting him in 12th with both players in cracking form ahead of the US Open.

Rafael Jodar is bumped down two places with Alexander Bublik losing contact with the top 10 in 16th after a slow fall. Another amazing run for the inform Brandon Nakashima sends him up to his latest career high of 17th in the world, a boost of five places.

Casper Ruud is on the brink of dropping out of the top 20 and would have done so if Tommy Paul managed to blast past the quarter-final stage in Cincinnati. Andrey Rublev has sunk to 24th in the world as he failed to back up a quarter-final run in 2025. Lower down, another Russian by the name of Karen Khachanov loses more ground to the top 32, now planted in 48th.

If you look up, there are new career highs for Daniel Merida and the impressive Thiago Agustin Tirante in 39th and 42st respectively with Nuno Borges sandwiched in between them after his positive form as of late.

While not Masters 1000 glory, Luca Van Assche found success at Challenger level in Quebec City. He clambers up to 40th with the title earning him a new career high and another breakthrough result. Also on the Challenger Tour, Hubert Hurkacz is making some much needed ground back up the rankings. He slots in 46th after a huge 23 place rise. The defeated finalist in Cancun, Sebastian Baez, can be found in 50th.

A couple of Frenchman were not so lucky. Most prominent of which was Terence Atmane. He burst onto the scene in Cincinnati last year with the most unlikely of semi-final runs. This year, the majority of those points have come off, and he drops 45 positions to 90th. Adrian Mannarino also suffers with a 16-place drop to 68th.

Outside the top 100, Jack Draper has moved up a couple of spots to 141st thanks to movement around him. Another notable name is Holger Rune who fell another 31 places to 131st as his injury still prevents him from making his ATP return.
