For the 2nd time in two weeks, Auger-Aliassime bested Carlos Taberner in three sets as he battles past the Spaniard 1-6 6-2 6-2 in Estoril.
Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the quarterfinals of the
Estoril Open with a win over Carlos Taberner in three sets. Auger started off the match in great fashion hitting an ace in the first point. He then won his service game and then disappeared for about 28 minutes. Auger was missing a lot as Taberner looked very sure in himself.
The Spaniard finished off the set with 6-1 in just over 30 minutes looking really sharp. They played in Barcelona last week with Auger winning the opener with 6-1. The Spaniard won the 2nd set and then Auger won the 3rd. This time around it was Auger who came back in the 2nd set taking an early break and never looking back.
He was up 5-0 in the set serving to finish it off but complicated things a bit. He was still able to win it with 6-2. The 3rd set featured more focused play by Auger who once again took an early break. All the magic Taberner had early in the match was gone with the Spaniard unable to put up a great fight. Auger then finished it off with 6-3.
He awaits either Bonzi or Korda in the quarterfinal.
