Korda sets up Auger-Aliassime clash in Estoril with win over Bonzi

Sebastian Korda continued playing well in Estoril taking down Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets 6-3 6-3 to set up a clash with Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinal.

Korda did not repeat the mistakes from Barcelona when he crashed out early in that event by playing some strong tennis and advancing to the Estoril Open quarterfinal. Waiting there for him is Auger-Aliassime who won earlier and to get there Korda had to battle past Benjamin Bonzi. It was a strange match that saw Korda shines at times but also fumble the match.

He started well taking an early break in the first set as Bonzi struggled with his serve. His serve is a very important part of his game and he tried to compensate for that with more aggression. That translated to more mistakes but also Korda was hitting the ball very cleanly from the baseline. There were a couple of strong winners.

All in all, it was enough for a 6-3 finish. In the 2nd set, he continued playing well taking an early break once more. Bonzi still struggled with his serve but eventually, he found some rhythm which worked in his favour. He broke back to make it 3-2 but lost his serve once more and this time around it was for good. Korda did have to save a break point at 5-3 and finish it off.
