Auger-Aliassime, who is the No.15 seed this week at the Western & Southern Open saw off the Georgian in a 6-4, 6-1 win. The Canadian won 10 out of his final 11 games and pounced on 36 unforced errors against 8 winners from Basilashvili who looked rusty in defeat.
The first winner was one of the most in-form players to start the year; he will hope to cement that this week in New York.
His compatriot Denis Shapovalov who is facing off against Marin Cilic later could face the player who won soon after in German ace Jan-Lennard Struff.
A quality display from Struff saw him win through 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour and 20 minutes. He took his chances on the top Australian's serve converting 3/7 breakpoints; De Minaur will now go back to the drawing board; as he gains some pivotal match practice after an abdominal injury saw his year curtailed slightly.
The German on the other hand has played a lot during lockdown; he will look to go on a deep run now he is through his first hurdle.
Pablo Carreno-Busta is also through seeing off Dusan Lajovic in a 7-5, 6-1 win. The Spaniard was taken to a tiebreak in a closely ran first set; but following that breaks at 3-1 and 5-1 up provided a route through; despite spurning five match points in the process after racing to 40-15 in the final game.
