The COVID-19 pandemic has had a very bad effect on the
Australian Open with the event reporting a 100 million dollar loss for the 2021 edition.
The Australian tennis federation, organizer among other things of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, has lost over 100 million Australian dollars (about 70.8 million dollars) due to the Covid impact had on the tournament last year, the 2020-2021.
According to the annual report of the ocean federation, the losses are due to many particular reasons including the high cost of quarantines for tennis players, the stringent safety measures, and the restrictions on the public of the stadiums that forced the organizers not only of the Australian Open into an emergency but also of all the other tournaments held there between the month of January and February.
The report was followed by a statemente that said:
"This result is in line with expectations and reflects the challenges
in the business environment that we had to face during the Pandemic linked to Coronavirus."
