Fans
reacted against Alexander Zverev after being fined in Germany for bodily harm
to his former girlfriend and mother of his daughter, Brenda Patea.
The Berlin
prosecutor's office filed an application for a criminal order against the
former world No. 2 in early 2023, accusing him of violence against his
ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, which resulted in physical injuries.
This is not
the only case involving Zverev in relation to violence, as his former
girlfriend Olya Sharypova also came forward in the media, alleging a similar
situation in which she had been a victim of mistreatment by the German.
As
reported, a district court in Berlin issued the judgment. His name does not
appear in the verdict, but it has been stated by the lawyers defending the
tennis player who maintain his innocence and aim to prove it in the trial they
consider necessary.
The law
firm Schertz Bergmann, representing the player, stated:
"The
procedure is scandalous, it cannot be a question of a fair, constitutional
procedure. Zverev will take action against this by any means available."
In
response, fans used social media to condemn Alexander Zverev for being involved
in cases of gender violence and even called on the ATP to take action against
the tennis player to prevent him from participating in the Tour.
“Alexander
Zverev has been issued a penalty order for bodily harm against his former
girlfriend and fines totalling €450,000 by a German court. Zverev has objected
to the penalty order, meaning it will likely go to public trial.”
"We
all know he did it. Baffled that he’s still allowed to play on the tour,"
a fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).
"Wild
that Alexander Zverev will walk on court tomorrow to play a match on the ATP
Tour as if nothing's happened," the fan posted.
