The final match of a packed day in Vienna has come to an end and in the final match, it saw Matteo Berrettini come back to win against Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-7(5) 6-2 6-3.
A spectacular tennis day in Vienna at the Erste Bank Open finished off with a spectacular match between Berrettini and Basilashvili. These players arrived in the Austrian capital in different spirits with Basilashvili almost winning the Indian Wells Masters. Berrettini did not play well lately at all and for him, this match was very important.
They both played like the match meant a lot to them and they were both brilliant. Neither player allowed too much for the other and we ended up in a tiebreak. In it, it was Basilashvili who proved a little better ultimately winning it 7-5.
The 2nd set started a lot better for Berrettini who was more focused on key rallies than Basilashvili. Matteo saved a break point and after that, he proceeded to break Basilashvili for the 3-0 lead. The Georgian's game kind of fell apart after that with him making more and more mistakes. Berrettini was very clinical especially in key rallies and the set was over with 6-2 for Matteo.
Feeling confident and completely in control of the match, Matteo continued playing better and better with his serve + forehand combo working to perfection. An early break was once again the case for Matteo and from there it was rather smooth sailing towards the finish line.
