Former Italian tennis player Paolo Bertolucci has hit back
at the critics of
Matteo Berrettini.
The 27-year-old has surprised many with his performance at
Wimbledon where he has booked his place in the last 16 of the competition.
Bertolucci, who is now a commentator with Sky TV in Italy,
asked Berrettini’s critics to show up after his recent heroics.
Berrettini’s run in the ongoing competition is of great significance
for him, especially considering how he has struggled with fitness concerns in
the recent past.
The 2021 Wimbledon finalist has missed three Grand Slams
since the start of 2022 because of different injuries.
In Wimbledon 2023, he defeated fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego
in the first round of the tournament with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
In the round of 64, the Rome-born managed to get the better
of Australia’s Alex de Minaur in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
In the round of 32, Berrettini caused a big upset by defeating
German’s Alexander Zverev with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 7-6.
He will now face world number one Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz in round four of Wimbledon on Monday.
