Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev has revealed that he is not looking
forward to moving to the Centre Court to play his
Wimbledon quarterfinal.
The 27-year-old booked his spot in the last-eight after a
walkover win against Czech Republic’s
Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16 on
Monday.
Talking after the match, Medvedev stated that he loves playing at the court where his fourth-round clash was played and is not looking
forward to playing at the Centre Court where his record is not great.
“The thing is, it’s probably my fifth or sixth Wimbledon and
I wasn’t very successful,” he said. “But I never lost on this court. I feel
sorry that in the quarterfinal, I’ll probably play on the Centre Court. I’m
like, can’t I just continue here? I love it here.”
Medvedev has been in exceptional form in the third Grand
Slam of the year where he has only lost one set till now.
In the round of 128 clash, the 2021 US Open winner defeated
Britain’s Arthur Fery in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4, 6-3.
In the second round, Medvedev outclassed France’s Adrian
Mannarino in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.
In the round of 32, the former world number one got the
better of Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
In the fourth round, Medvedev was well on his way to another
straight-set win as he was two sets to love up when the game was called off.
The current world number will face America’s Christopher
Eubanks in Wimbledon’s quarterfinal on Wednesday.
