When the interviewer thinks you've won... but you didn't 😬 This was one awkward press conference for Paula Badosa #Wimbledon
America’s legendary tennis player Serena Williams' ex-coach Rennae Stubbs wants Wimbledon authorities to revoke the credentials of a journalist who asked a silly question to Spain’s Paula Badosa.
The 25-year-old exited from the third Grand Slam of the year after forcing to retire from her second-round clash against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on Friday.
In the post-match conference, Badosa was congratulated by a journalist over her win and was asked how high her confidence is.
In response to that, the former world number two corrected the journalist by stating: "For your information, I just lost, I didn't win. "Well, I'm not feeling at my best form. I just retired, so I wish I could feel better.”
The former world number one’s ex-coach Stubbs, on her official Twitter account, asked the Wimbledon authorities to revoke the said journalist’s credentials.
The result will be another severe blow to Badosa who was forced to retire from the French Open earlier this year with a similar kind of back injury.
It is not clear how long the New York-born will stay on the sidelines with the current setback.
Despite reaching the number two spot in the WTA rankings, Badosa’s record at the Grand Slams remains pretty average.
She has only played in the quarterfinals or beyond in any major tournament once in her career which was back in 2021 when she suffered a defeat in the last-eight contest against Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 8-6.
