Bianca Andreescu has not played since the Miami Open and in Strasbourg, she will play her only clay event before the Grand Slam.
The Canadian last played at the Miami Open where she showcased some amazing tennis but an injury prevented her from going all the way. At the Strasbourg Open, she will look for as many matches as she can play as preparation for the Roland Garros. It will be her only clay event ahead of the Grand Slam and ahead of it she said:
“So far so good other than the weather, it’s been raining a lot, the courts are a bit muggy but I am doing the best I can due to the circumstances and I think it’s the best preparation for French Open”.
Andreescu missed the Madrid and Rome Masters after testing positive upon arrival to Spain. On the whole mess she said:
“I’m doing great, I had a great couple of days off after Miami, I spent a little downtime with the family, and unfortunately what happened in Madrid happened but I felt I did the best I could and I felt playing in Strasbourg was the better option and I’m happy with the decision”.
Andreescu will be the top seed in Strasbourg this week and she will play her first clay event since the 2019 Roland Garros. Playing a warm-up event was important for her as she said:
“It makes a huge difference, I wanted to play a tournament on clay before the French Open, It’s been two years since I played on clay so let’s see what I can do”.
