Caroline Garcia managed to pull a straight-sets win over
Leylah Fernandez earlier today and it was as she put it "a robbery" due to the circumstances.
She was down a break earlier in the set and then also down in the tiebreak 0-4 before managing to pull out of that. It took some gutsy play by Garcia but that's how she always plays. Bold and fierce and ultimately it proved too much for the Canadian who capitulated easier in the second set. Speaking after the match, Garcia said:
"I felt after I won the first set it was almost a little bit of a robbery on my side. Because she was pretty much up all the time and she was winning service games very easily. I could never really find my rhythm but I just tried to go one point at a time and stay focused on the present. I made it and it was very important for me for sure."
