Borna Coric came to Cincinnati without any expectations but the Croatian played a superb week of tennis to be in the final 6-3 6-4.
To get into the final, Coric needed to defeat
Cameron Norrie and he did in straight sets. His level through the year has been shaky as best but that was expected. Not playing for two years due to a shoulder injury will make any player question his tennis but he's not doing it this week. This week he's simply playing and nobody can stop him.
Norrie proved he's only human in this one as the Birt faced Alcaraz in a very long and physically exhausting match. The effects of that were certainly on display in this one because he lacked the usual bounce that he normally has.
Even so, it was another great display from Coric. Particularly so because he did not serve well at all hitting his first serve only 43 % of the time. He only dropped 5 points behind his first serve all match long and allowed only two break points.
Those are some really strong stats for him and he also had 22 winners and only 15 unforced errors. It's just one of those weeks where everything seems to be working but he was also a bit lucky with Norrie running out of gas. Overall a final for Coric and a chance to take on Tsitispas for the trophy.
