Stefanos Tsitsipas battles past Daniil Medvedev for Cincinnati final

Stefanos Tsitsipas earned a huge win over Daniil Medvedev to book the Western & Southern Open final 7-6(6) 3-6 6-3.

Tsitsipas and Medvedev have played a couple of matches over the year but the Russian mostly dominated those ones. He was certainly the huge favourite heading into this one as well but Stefanos was finally able to beat him. It's a huge win for the Greek who has struggled against the best this year and generally did not play as good as he can.

He dropped his serve early in this one but was able to make it 3-3 with some very attacking play. The match went to the tiebreak and he was able to save a set point and close it out 8-6. He was somewhat lucky that Medvedev did not serve as consistently as he can. It's what happened to Tsitsipas in the 2nd set.

He could not his serve well enough giving Medvedev plenty of chances on his 2nd serve and the Russian was clinical. Won nine of eleven points played breaking him twice and led him 5-0 at one point. One break was pulled back but Medvedev still won it 6-3. The final set was another one where Medvedev had issues.

He hit his first serve 39 % of the time but even so, he was able to win his serve games. He dropped one midway through the set and that was enough for a very strong-serving Tsitsipas to secure the final set 6-3. 0
