World no. 24 Borna Coric will postpone the start of the season after withdrawing from the ATP 250 Antalya Open that kicks off the new season from January 5.
After three years on grass at luxury hotel resort Kaya Palazzo Belek, the Antalya Open moves from June to the first week of 2021, introducing the season with the Delray Beach Open. The field will be stronger than in the previous years, with Matteo Berrettini, David Goffin, Fabio Fognini, Alex de Minaur all chasing the trophy and 250 ATP points.
Borna would have been the 5th seed but he decided to skip the Antalya trip and spend more time at home before traveling to Melbourne for two-week quarantine. Coric won 16 matches in 2020 and gained a couple of places in comparison to where he started in January. Borna defeated Dominic Thiem at the ATP Cup before losing four straight matches, claiming his only good result in the opening two months in Rio de Janeiro.
The Croat improved his tally with the US Open quarter-final run, losing to Alexander Zverev in four sets and notching another deep run with the final at the ATP 500 event in St. Petersburg. After beating Reilly Opelka and Milos Raonic, Borna fell in straight sets against Andrey Rublev, failing to win the first title since Halle 2018.
