Former world no. 1 and two-time Major champion
Garbine Muguruza is ready for the new season that starts on January 6 in Abu Dhabi, hoping for a good run like in January 2020.
The Spaniard claimed only two WTA titles after Cincinnati 2017, experincing a couple of mediocre seasons before finding the form again at the Australian Open this year. Garbine prevailed over Simona Halep in the semi-final and won the opening set against Sofia Kenin in the title clash before losing 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, missing a chance of adding the third different Major crown to her collection.
Speaking about her career goals, Garbine said she would love to claim all four Majors, an Olympic medal and compete in the mixed doubles with the 20-time Major winner
Rafael Nadal.
"Thanks to Conchita Martinez, I have vision and experience, and I know how to handle things. Conchita is a former player, and we often don't need words; gesture or a look are o.k. We never argue, and there are no tense moments. After that weak period that I had left behind, I'm more relaxed now, and everything is easier for me. The luck of tennis players is that we have many tournaments, and we don't have to prepare specifically for the Games.
I hope that Tokyo will host the Olympic Games this year. Speaking about my goals, I would love to win all four Majors and an Olympic medal and compete with Rafael Nadal in the mixed doubles. When I finish my career, I want to stay active and have a family, as I can't see myself having a child while still competing," Garbine Muguruza said.
