American football star Tom Brady has heaped praise on the
current world number one
Novak Djokovic for having a ‘great integrity’. The 36-year-old
is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open
era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.
Brady, who was present at the Laureus World Sports Awards,
heaped praise on Djokovic for bringing ‘out the best in people’ in the sport. “He
[Novak Djokovic] has great integrity. I think what you’ve seen over all these
years, the competition always, in my view, brings out the best in people and it
certainly has brought out the best in him.”
Djokovic is having a
rather below-par season according to his high standards as he has not been able
to play in the final of any event in 2024. At the Australian Open, the Belgrade-born
suffered a defeat to the current world number two Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the semifinal
with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. The reigning world number was then knocked out
of the Indian Wells after losing in the round of 32 to Italy’s Luca Nardi with
a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Djokovic’s last appearance came at the Monte-Carlo
Masters where he lost in the semifinal to Norway’s Caper Ruud with a score of
6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
