Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz has stated
that he is not ready to imagine tennis with legendary
Rafael Nadal. The
37-year-old is often regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of
men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles.
Nadal, has struggled with fitness concerns in the recent past
and it was because of this reason, he ended up missing three out of four Grand
Slams last year. The former world number one returned to full fitness earlier
this year but once again suffered an injury during the Brisbane International
which ruled him out of action from more than one mega-events. It was because of
these reasons, Nadal announced back in 2023 that next season will be his last
before he hang up his boots.
Alcaraz was recently quoted in a report where he stated that
he is not ready to think about tennis after Nadal as he is still keen to enjoy
the legendary star ‘as much as possible’. "I don't want to imagine it [tennis
without Nadal] yet,” he said. “Like every fan of Rafa, of tennis, no one wants
to imagine the circuit without Rafa. Personally speaking, I want to enjoy Rafa
as much as possible, every time he enters the court, every time he can compete.
I know that's what he wants and what excites him, to feel competitive and try
to win. Every time he can do it, I'm going to be there to enjoy it. That's what
we have to think about, not about the afterlife. but to live in the moment.”
