Yet another seed is out of Queen's and yet again it was a native British player that took him down with Ryan Peniston beating
Casper Ruud 7-6(4) 7-6(2).
Casper Ruud has never been a very good grass player and he proved it once more by losing to a 26-year-old wild card from the UK. To be completely fair to Casper Ruud, he played a fairly decent match for somebody not that great on grass but he ran into a very inspired effort from Peniston.
He played quite literally the best match of his career blasting over 30 winners in this one. He frustrated his opponent with his lefty forehand and generally spectacular movement on the ground. Ruud had issues in the opening set having had to save several break points in two separate games.
Eventually, he had a set point of his own but Peniston was able to save it and then outplay Ruud in the tiebreak. In the 2nd set Peniston played even better but so did Ruud. The Norwegian took the 4-3 lead but Peniston broke back immediately after that. We went into a tiebreak once more and this time around Peniston once again outplayed his opponent with some spectacular play.
