Brooksby advances to semifinals in Dallas, Giron upsets Fritz

American youngster Jenson Brooksby booked his place in the semifinals of the inaugural Dallas Open, whereas top seed Taylor Fritz saw his campaign come to an end with a three-set loss to compatriot Marcos Giron.
Brooksby looked impressive in his 6-3 6-0 win over Australian Jordan Thompson, requiring just an hour and 11 minutes to advance to the semifinals. The 21-year old has been touted as the future of men's American tennis, and continues to show improvements as he dominated his opponent from the baseline. Brooksby saved all three break points faced, exhibiting poise and confidence that belies his young age.
Top seed Taylor Fritz had a different experience when he faced countryman Marcos Giron, as he fell in an exhausting three-set match. Giron pulled off a 6-4 3-6 7-6(3) victory in two hours and 22 minutes, improving to 1-1 in their career meetings. The World No.70 withstood 12 aces and saved 11 of 14 break points to fight past his higher-seeded opponent.
Brooksby is set to face Giron in the semifinals, in what will be their first meeting on the ATP circuit.
