Jannik Sinner has been on a tear at the ongoing Miami Open, and his coach Darren Cahill believes the Italian has the ability to sit atop the ATP Rankings in the near future.
Cahill has worked with several top players of the sport, including Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and lately Simona Halep. He helped the Romanian reach World No.1, in addition to winning two Grand Slam titles.
The 59-year old began working with Sinner in June 2022, and stated in a recent interview with Eurosport that his ward was a top-ten player with impressive strengths and a good training regimen.
"Jannik has everything to become number one in the world," he said. "Before my arrival he was already a great player, among the top ten in the rankings: he has incredible weapons and was well trained."
Furthermore, Cahill believes that for Sinner to defeat the top players, his coaching team would need to analyze his performance against them from previous matches and pinpoint areas that need improvement.
"Now we need to watch his matches against the best tennis players around and understand what's keeping him from beating them," he added. "Then work on it. It definitely takes time, a couple of years and many match situations."
