Bianca Andreescu suffered a horrific ankle injury on Monday at the Miami Open, and Paul Annacone, former coach of Roger Federer, was quick to wish the Canadian a speedy recovery.
After dropping the opening set against Ekaterina Alexandrova in their fourth round match, Andreescu was up a break in the second set. It was here that the 2019 US Open champion fell while scrambling for a ball, and was carted off the court in a wheelchair.
Annacone, a member of the Tennis Channel broadcast team, wished Andreescu a speedy recovery, stating that it was a heartbreaking moment to watch.
"Just heartbreaking. We've seen the level of play that she has shown us in the past, what a great player," he said. "You talk about the injury bug, just hasn't been able to stay healthy, and now she's finally getting back on the court, consistently playing at the highest levels of the game.
"These are one of the things that you just don't know why. We send her great thoughts and hope that it's a quick recovery. We want her back on the courts, we want her happy and healthy, and, it's just a tough thing to see."
