Ending the streak 🙌 @karenkhachanov defeats a Top 10 player for the first time since August 2019! #MiamiOpen
Karen Khachanov is in the Miami Open quarter-finals after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(4) 6-4 behind a really solid performance with very few mistakes.
Khachanov has been putting together a really strong year so far with the Russian booking another good run in Miami. He's played well here in the past and now he's got his second win over Tsitsipas who bested him six times before including one this year. It was at the Australian Open but the Russian won today.
Tsitsipas had his chances in this one but once again when it mattered the most he wasn't able to play his best and certainly not to the level he needed to win. The first set saw Khachanov face break points but Tsitsipas as the Greek served really well and remained focused. His serve started to leave him at the end of the set and that proved a major problem.
That coupled with the tiebreak proved to be his undoing because he made too many mistakes at the end. If he used his chances earlier he would have won the set. Boosted by that opening set, Khachanov started to play even better and take more risks. It paid off as he broke Tsitsipas and then calmly ended the match 6-4.
25 winners and only 9 mistakes for Khachanov. That's about as good as you can play.
