After getting to the Indian Wells quater-final, Jannik Sinner is in the Miami Open one too after beating Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4 to secure a spot.
Sinner and Rublev have played a couple of times over the years but in this particular spot, many favoured Sinner. There was a clear reason for that and it was mostly due to the current form of the players. Sinner is playing great and he showed once more in this one completely overwhelming Rublev with his groundstrokes and that's not easy to do.
Sinner came out on fire in this match smashing Rublev completely in the early stages of the match to take the opening set 6-2. He had 5 aces in that one and only dropped four points on his serve hitting 16 aces and only one unforced error in the match. Rublev played pretty well but he was no match for an amazing Sinner.
The second set was a bit more competitive because the Russian knew what was coming which allowed him to counter it better. Sinner didn't serve as well in the second set but he was still amazing on his serve not allowing a single break point. He added 13 more winners in the 6-4 effort to secure the quarter-final. An absurd stat line of 8 aces, 29 winners and only two unforced errors.
