Cameron Norrie is into another final and this one comes on the red clay of Buenos Aires as he outlasted Varillas in two close sets 7-6(5) 6-4.
Norrie showed off some solid clay form in recent years and he even won a trophy on the surface last year. He's been playing surprisingly well on it and another final proves just that. The most recent one will be contested on Sunday, February 19th and it comes after his win over Varillas. It was a close match, a very tough one as his opponent is really good on this surface.
Norrie was up 4-2 early in the first set but he allowed his opponent to battle back to make it 5-5. Varillas saved two set points to make it 5-5 and we went into a tiebreak. It was controlled well from the start by Norrie and he took it 7-5. The second set was somewhat similar as it was a close battle once more. The British player had an early break 2-0 and he held it for the majority of the set.
There was some trouble in the final game as Varillas had two break poitns but Norrie managed to hold on and advance. It was good to see because he had a massive choke agaisnt Gasquet earlier in the year in the Auckland final.
