Britain’s
Cameron Norrie is set for a major jump in ATP Rankings. The 29-year-old has gone through a difficult campaign but managed to
regain form in the later stages. He is currently taking part in the ATP 250 event
in Metz where he booked his place in the final after beating Corentin Moutet in
the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 7-6.
Because of this performance, Norrie is now set for a major
jump in ATP rankings. He started the competition with the 57th rank
and is set to return into the top-50 players list in men’s tennis. Despite
that, Norrie’s season cannot be classified as an impressive one. He started the
2024 year in the top-20 players on the planet.
This year, the Johannesburg-born star played in 40 matches
where he won 22 times and suffered defeats on 18 occasions. Before the ongoing Moselle
Open in Metz, Norrie’s best performance in a competition came in an ATP 500
event in Rio de Janeiro in February where he was eventually knocked out after
losing in the semifinal to Argentina’s Mariano Navone in straight sets with a
score of 6-4, 6-2.
Norrie has been recently quoted in a report after cementing
his spot in the first final of the 2024 season. The former world number eight admitted
that his performances this year has not been up to the mark but he also went on
to share his excitement about playing the all-important final.
“It’s been a difficult year for me and I never really was
able to gain any momentum, so it’s nice to finish the last week of the year
playing for a final,” said Norrie. “I was just back to competing for every
point. It was nice to get my first indoor final as well and, regardless of who
I play tomorrow, it’s going to be difficult but I’m going to enjoy the win
today. I’m really happy.”
