Cameron Norrie put forward a very measured effort in the
Lyon Open final to take down
Alex Molcan 6-3 6-7(3) 6-1.
The British player played in the Lyon Open final last year but lost to Tsitsipas with him finally getting himself a clay title. Norrie played in a couple of finals on clay last year but failed to win the trophy and now he got his 4th trophy overall. It's the 2nd final for Molcan this year and the 2nd defeat as the Slovakian ran out of gas towards the end.
The opening of the set started well for Norrie who quickly took a break and never looked back. Molcan had somewhat of a slow start which has been the case in quite a few of his matches. He was able to find a rhythm later on giving Norrie some trouble but the Brit held on. Molcan opened the 2nd set with a break but failed to confirm it losing his serve in the 2nd game of the set.
The set continued with both players playing well and holding their serve yet a 4-5 Norrie jumped out to a 40-15 lead on Molcan's serve. The Brit had two match points but he was unable to convert them. The set was settled in the tiebreak with Molcan outplaying his opponent 7-3. The final set was a bad one from Molcan who never looked comfortable after dropping his serve early.
He did force break poitns on Norrie's serve but he was impatietn and Norrie was able to cruise to a 6-1 fiinish.
