Lyon Open

You can find all you need to know about the Lyon Open 2024 or Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon for ATP, and Open 6ème Sens Métropole de Lyon for WTA on tennisuptodate.com.

From 1987 to 2009, an indoor tournament called Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon was played in Lyon. The future clay court tournament is separate from this.

In 2017, the tournament took over the lease of the ATP-250 license from the Nice ATP tournament, which was 80% owned by Ronnie Leitgeb's Austrian Champ Events Werbe- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH, with the remaining 20% owned by Frenchman Jean-François Caujolle.[1] There were no expansion opportunities in Nice, after which Lyon was on the radar,[2][3] In 2022, Ronnie Leitgeb transferred his shares of Champ Events to his son Florian Leitgeb.

A restructuring of the ATP Tour will expand the number of ATP Tour 500 tournaments from 13 to 16 starting in 2025 by merging two ATP Tour 250 tournaments each time. The licensee of the Lyon tournament, Florian Leitgeb's Champ Events Werbe- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH, together with the licensee of the Munich ATP tournament, the Münchener Tennis- und Turnierclubs Iphitos, submitted a joint bid to upgrade the Munich ATP tournament to an ATP Tour 500 tournament, which was awarded by the ATP. This marked the end for the Lyon tournament after the 2024 edition.

The Lyon Open is an ATP and WTA tennis tournament organized on two separate dates with 2 separate names. The ATP tour follows the WTA tour in May 2024, and has already been confirmed. The 2023 title holders are Alycia Parks (USA) and Artur Fils (France). The WTA event will start end of January 2024.

The event, also known as the Open Parc for the men, is an ATP 250 tournament. It’s a relatively new tournament, founded in 2017 to replace the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur, but it has quickly become an important fixture in the calendar. The Open Parc Lyon is the last major men’s tournament before Roland-Garros, so you can expect to see some stars sharpening their clay court game in preparation for the Grand Slam.

The women's tournament was first organised in 2020. It's linked to French player Caroline Garcia as a home tournament for 'Caro' as she is affectionally known. The 2024 edition will host more than 21 top 100 players from the WTA Tour.
