As tennis players prepare for Roland Garros, the ATP will move to the clay courts of Lyon, France for the 2024 Lyon Open. The seventh edition of the tournament will be held from May 19-25, 2024.
An ATP 250 event, the Lyon Open will see 28 singles players and 16 doubles teams compete for their respective titles. The tournament has been won by home favorites, with Jo Wilfried Tsonga lifting the inaugural edition in 2017 and Benoit Paire prevailing in 2019. Next gen star Arthur Fils won the most recent edition last year.
The local fans will have more home players to support, as Frenchman Ugo Humbert is scheduled to compete at the event as the top seed. Former top 10 star and French veteran Gael Monfils is also slated to appear at the event, alongside Kazakh Alexander Bublik and American Frances Tiafoe. Albeit Arthur Fils will not play this year's tournament with the Frenchman withdrawing for the tournament prior to Roland Garros.
Also the tournament suffers by the fact that it is a week after the double header in Madrid and Rome. This means that many of the top names potentially requiring some semblance of form snub it and have a week off. It will still be a tight turnaround for a lot of the names involved depending on the Roland Garros schedule.
