Nick Kyrgios made his return at the Stuttgart Open but the return wasn't that great as the Australian looked rather bad on the court which might have something to do with his knee.
The Australian underwent knee surgery earlier this year missing the Australian Open and every event since then because of it. He pushed back his comeback multiple times which already raised concern among fans and his return in Stuttgart certainly didn't make any one of them feel any better. The Australian didn't play a very good match losing to Wu in straight sets with a lot of frustration.
During one of the changeovers Kyrgios shoudted towards his box that his knee was giving him pain:
"I feel my knee every point. I can't walk without pain."
Kyrgios pleads for patience
The optics certainly don't look too good as Kyrgios struggled during the match with many noting that he wasn't ready to play. He gave it a go and completed the match but the message to his box got a lot of fans worried. Kyrgios did his best to calm the fans on social media after the match, pleading for more patience and explaining that he's trying his best:
"Be patient with me my fans please…. It’s a process to get back to where I was. I know it’s hard for you to see me perform like today, but I need more time and hopefully can get back to where I was."
Fans are hoping and certainly, a very good Kyrgios would make Wimbledon a much more pleasant experience to watch but right now it's not looking good right now. There are a few more weeks left but knees don't generally get better in weeks. It usually takes months and quite a few of them. That's time Kyrgios doesn't have, unfortunately.
