Carlos Alcaraz has completed the feat of being Year End No.1 in the ATP once more after defeating Lorenzo Musetti to move to 3-0 in the round-robin in the season finale. It is the second time he has achieved this at the ATP Finals having also done so in 2022.
ATP Chairman, Andrea Gaudenzi and Head of Corporate for PIF who sponsor the rankings, Mohamed Alsayyad presented Alcaraz the trophy. He will now go on to chase the ATP Finals trophy, one of only a few tournaments that he is yet to win.
He started the ATP Finals 150 points ahead in a battle that was termed with Jannik Sinner but in reality, it was a bit of a formality. Alcaraz won all his group games and has hoisted himself into the latter stages with games to spare in beating Jannik Sinner. The Italian termed it impossible to win the title of Year End No.1 and despite holding it for a week, that termed to be true as Alcaraz was presented it today.
"It is a pleasure, to be honest, for me. Being the No. 1 in the world is something that I’m working really hard for, you know, with my team every day. It is a goal, to be honest. But I think it’s a journey that you don’t go through alone. It’s with your whole team, with your family, with your close people behind you, always supporting you on top, in the good moments. I’m really, really proud of having such a great team," said Alcaraz on court.
"Having this trophy once again… the first one was back in 2022, and I have the same team. I’m still really proud of the team that I have right now. Some new members in the team as well, and I’m really happy and proud to share this moment with them too.
"For me, it’s a great achievement. It means the world to me, to be honest, and I’m just really proud and happy to continue.
"Because the support I’m receiving everywhere I go… I mean, I can’t thank people enough. We’re travelling since the 1st of January until the end of November — new places, new countries, new stages — and the people are always the same: great energy, great atmosphere. I feel the love everywhere I’m going.
"In some tournaments, in some matches, without the support of the people, it wouldn’t be possible to come back, to win, to lift trophies. So I really want to say thank you to all the people who are coming to every tournament, to every match, supporting tennis and supporting myself. I’m really grateful for everyone, for the energy and the love that I’m receiving.
"These trophies, I owe them to the people, because it’s not only for one person. As I said, it’s for my team and for my people, but obviously with the support I’m receiving everywhere, I want to share this moment. We’re always on the road — we start on the 1st of January and finish practically now. We live all over the world every week, and we have many people who come to see the matches, who come to encourage us. This would not be possible without them.
"The energy that the spectators give us when we are on court helps us lift these important trophies. So I really want to share it — not only with my staff and my team, but with all the people who make me feel important and loved around the world. This is my great result."
