Carlos Alcaraz faced the best possible version of Jan-Lennard Struff at Wimbledon and he was able to overcome it in a thrilling battle 4-6 7-5 4-6 7-6(3) 6-4.
Oh what a match this was. Another banger in a day full of bangers. Jan Lennard Struff brough the best version of himself to the court today and it was still not enough against the thrilling Spaniard. The German served well, returned well, attacked well and covered the net as if he had 10 arms but it was still not enough. He took the opening set 6-4 as Alcaraz struggled to find a good returning rhythm.
He eventually did find some better returns in the 2nd set and that was enough to win it 7-5. The next one was a close one with Alcaraz pressing his opponent quite a bit but Struff did not buckle under the pressure. He even took the lead and served out the 2nd set 6-4.
The final set was one where Struff put Alcaraz under a lot of pressure. The Spaniard found himself in a couple of tricky situations but every time he was able to wiggle his way out of it. He played a brutal point down 0-2 in the tiebreak that changed everything. He won it 7-3 and eventually outplayed his opponent in the final set o complete a stunning comeback.
What a win for Alcaraz against a player who could not have played this any better.
