NO MERCY 💪 #MMOpen @carlosalcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz destroyed Alexander Zverev in the Madrid Open final last year and he did it again this year 6-1 6-2 though it was not a final.
Alcaraz has been looking really strong once again in Madrid and while Zverev historically played really well at this event, he proved no match today. The German mostly relies on his serve in Madrid but it wasn't really there for him as he had only 3 aces and 4 double faults. Alcaraz stood far back and he was able to catch most balls and get it back.
He was also firing on all cylinders from the baseline as Zverev was unable to withstand him from the baseline. It was a problem last year in the final and it was again a problem today. Generally, Alcaraz is not a great matchup for Zverev in these fast conditions though Zverev was able to beat him at Roland Garros last year.
Alcaraz played a really solid match with 4 aces and 12 winners. He had only 4 unforced errors which was clean enough to cruise with relative ease against the former champion here. He faces Karen Khachanov for a spot in the semi-final.
