Carlos Alcaraz played his first match since the disappointing loss to Musetti in Hamburg and he largely had no issues against Norbert Gombos.
The final score was 6-2 6-3 for Alcaraz who is now back into another ATP quarterfinals. The Spaniard remembers Umag fondly because he won his maiden trophy here last year and he came back to try and defend his trophy. So far so good for him as he's known three matches away from doing so successfully. This was a typical Alcaraz performance as he took his opponent by surprise with his tremendous level.
Attacking and hitting some impressive winners, Alcaraz left Gombos stunned who could do very little as he watched Alcaraz secure the opening set 6-2. He did a bit better in the 2nd set but he was still no match for Alcaraz who toned back the aggression a bit but still did enough to take the set 6-3.
It was far from a perfect match by the Spaniard as Gombos had seven break points but he failed to use either. Alcaraz on the other hand 12 but he used four of them and that was the simple difference in this matchup. Good start from Carlitos.
