World number one
Carlos Alcaraz secured a comfortable win to
start his
Wimbledon 2023 campaign in style.
The third Grand Slam of the year is already underway in London
where a few of the leading players have already cemented their place in the next
round.
Alcaraz, who is the top seed in the men’s singles category,
showcased why he is so highly rated as he thrashed
Jeremy Chardy in straight sets on Tuesday with a score of 6-0, 6-2, 7-5.
In the first set, the Spanish tennis star won 87 percent
service points, considerably higher than his opponent who only managed to win
44 percent points while serving.
In the second set, Alcaraz was once again extremely dominant
as he ended up winning 89 percent of points while serving. His opponent only
managed to win 50 percent of service points.
In the third set, Chardy showcased a bit more courage. He managed
to take the set to 5-5 but eventually lost a service game that gave Alcaraz a chance
to serve and seal the match.
That's exactly what the 2022 winner did as he won the third and final set with a score of 7-5. In the last set, the El Palmar-born produced 19 winners, 12 more than his opponent.
The result will be an encouraging one for Alcaraz who will be hoping to finally have a better time while playing at Wimbledon where his best performance came last year as he was knocked out by Italy's Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
