Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has revealed his disappointment after losing in the men’s doubles category alongside Rafael
Nadal. The two were regarded as one of the strongest pairs in the competition in the doubles category. Still, their journey was cut short as they lost in the quarterfinal to America’s pair of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Alcaraz, who was playing with his childhood idol Nadal, is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era in the singles category, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles. Talking to the media after the match, Alcaraz stated that he was ‘disappointed’ after the
result.
The 21-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the best
players in the world in men’s tennis in the singles category along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, further stated that his overall experience
was ‘great’ and that he enjoyed ‘every single minute’ of playing alongside his
idol. Alcaraz further asserted that his primary objective now is to try to divert his attention and focus on his next objective, which is to play in the quarterfinals of the singles category.
“[We were] So close,” he said. “It has been great for me. I
enjoyed it and I tried to enjoy every single second that we played together. I
think we've played great points, great rallies, great matches. But I'm a little
bit disappointed right now. Obviously, we wanted to to keep going. We wanted to
to get the win, and give us the the chance to fight for the medal for Spain. We
couldn't keep going but I'm going to try to keep this experience and try to
forget this bad moment and focus on tomorrow."
Alcaraz booked his place in the last eight of the singles
event after beating Russia’s Roman Safiullin in straight sets with a score of
6-4, 6-2. He will face America’s Tommy Paul, who his spot in the quarterfinal
after beating France’s Corentin Moutet in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
