Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz is currently leading the Men’s Race to the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The mega-event is scheduled to be organized
from July 26 to August 11 in the French capital city Paris where thousands of
athletes will participate in many different games.
In the men’s singles category in
tennis, Alcaraz is currently leading the race with 4,270 points. He is closely
followed by the current world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak
Djokovic who is second on the list with 4,200 points.
Italy’s Jannik Sinner is third in
the list with 2,635 points whereas Russia’s Danill Medvedev is fourth with 2,625
points.
The list also features the likes
of Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Russia’s Andrey Rublev, America’s Taylor Fritz
and France’s Adrian Mannarino.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the gold
medal was won by Zverev as he defeated Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the final.
Surprisingly, Djokovic, who is
often regarded as the best player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the
Open era, having won 24 Grand Slam titles, came fourth in the list.
Alcaraz will be hoping to once
again live up to the expectations as he did earlier this year whe he won Wimbledon
2023 following a memorable win over Djokovic in a five-set thrilling final with
a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
