America’s tennis star
Jessica Pegula
was involved in a hilarious moment during the prize distribution ceremony of
the
Korea Open.
The 29-year-old won the title
after beating China’s Yue Yuan in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday.
After the match, Pegula was
involved in a hilarious moment. The tournament orgnaiser asked to pose with one
finger showing that she was the best player in the competition.
However, the Buffalo-born had a
long time to understand what she was asked to do in the first place.
The result will be a big for
Pegula who has now set her sights on playing in the last big competitions of the
WTA calendar, the Finals.
The world number three has had a
mixed year at the highest level where despite participating in the main round
of all four Grand Slams, she only managed to qualify for the quarterfinal
or beyond in just two of them.
In the Australian Open, Pegula was
knocked out of the competition after losing to the former world number one Victoria
Azarenka in the quarterfinal with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
At Wimbledon, she was once again
knocked out of the tournament after losing to Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova
with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
