Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has rejected complaints from
Stefanos Tsitsipas about his grunts in the
French Open 2024. The second Grand
Slam of the year is moving towards closure, where the remaining players put their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Alcaraz is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated
players currently playing in the men’s singles category, along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner.
The 21-year-old is taking part in the French Open, where he
recently booked his place in the semifinal after beating Greece’s Tsitsipas in
the last-eight clash in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
During the contest, the current world number nine complained
to the chair umpire that Alcaraz’s grunt is not letting him focus on the game. "I
never complain about this but it's frustrating, right before I hit I still hear
him grunting," he said.
Alcaraz was recently quoted in a report where he stated that he did not do anything intentionally as he had no intention to disturb his opponent
in the clash.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal of the French Open in straight sets.
"I'm very happy to return to play in the semi-finals of
this tournament,” he said. “I think I'll get there with more confidence after
the good match I played today against Stefanos. I heard his complaints about my
screaming for too long during the tie-break rallies. He's free to think what he
wants, but I can say that I didn't prolong it any longer than normal and that I
had no intention of disturbing him.”
Alcaraz will going to be involved in a mouthwatering semifinal
contest against the current world number two Italy’s Jannik Sinner. The
22-year-old, who is set to become the new world number one once the ATP rankings
will be updated next week after the withdrawal of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic from
the competition, cemented his place in the last-four after beating Bulgaria’s Grigor
Dimitrov in the quarterfinal with a score of 6-2, 6-4, 7-6.
