Carlos Alcaraz leads Spain's hopes in a Davis Cup. He arrives after a tough North American tour that ended with his tough defeat in the second round of the US Open 2024, surprising all the fans.
The Spaniard returned from the Olympic Games in Paris, and faced a very tough stretch of the season. First, with his elimination at the Cincinnati Open leaving a very tense image when he broke his first racquet as a professional in the defeat against Gael Monfils, and then with everything that happened at the US Open.
However, in the pre-Davis Cup press conference, Alcaraz assures that he has managed to turn the page and regain a physical form that, according to him, he was not at an optimal level during the US Open.
"It has been a tour that I expected to do better. I have not managed to play at the level I would have liked, but in the end it is very complicated to perform at the level you want every day and you have to be prepared to accept things as they come," Alcaraz began.
"I think I lacked preparation after a very intense summer, with few days of rest, disconnection and training for the American tour and get there in the best possible way. It's an experience to learn from for the future," added Carlitos.
"Right now I feel good, motivated to play the Davis Cup at home. I really want to feel the affection of the people, to live another Davis Cup, since I have not been able to play many. Mentally, I'm very eager and motivated to keep improving. Physically, I have done a good job since I lost in New York to be at an optimal level to face the Davis Cup and what is coming", concluded Carlos Alcaraz, who wants to give Spain the opportunity to fight for the prestigious title.
