Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz is set for a busy schedule
after being named in the
Davis Cup lineup for Spain. The 21-year-old is already
regarded as one of the best players currently playing in the men’s singles
category, along with Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
After being named in Spain's lineup for the Davis Cup, Alcaraz is set to have a busy schedule in the later stages of the season. The
team will also consist of Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta and Marcel
Granollers. Interestingly, the scheduled Davis Cup tie is set to take place a
week after the US Open. That’s not it as Alcaraz will also feature in the Laver
Cup which means that he is set to have very little rest in the later stages of
the season.
Alcaraz is going through an impressive season. The current
world number three is set to play in the final at
Wimbledon on Sunday, where he will
face Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard booked his
place in the grand finale after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the
semifinal with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. On the other hand, his opponent
Djokovic booked his spot in the final after beating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
The final on Sunday will be a rematch of last year’s
final at Wimbledon. In that contest, Alcaraz came out on top in a
five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6,
7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. If the Spaniard wins on Sunday, it will be his fourth
Grand Slam and second this season. He lifted the French Open for the
first time in his career after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a five-set
thrilling contest with a score of 6–3,
2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2.
