Spanish sensation
Carlos Alcaraz announced he would be skipping the upcoming
Canadian Open due to his national obligations at the 2024
Olympic Games, and this decision will likely impact his earnings for the year.
The reigning Wimbledon champion is currently in Paris for the Olympics, where he will face Novak Djokovic for the gold medal in the singles event. Additionally, Alcaraz teamed up with compatriot Rafael Nadal in the doubles event, but the Spanish duo fell to the more experienced American team of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz to skip Canadian Open
The former World No.1 announced he would not be competing at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Canada this year, as the event begins on August 6 and the Spaniard would need more time to recuperate and transition back to hard courts after playing on clay at the Olympics. However, this decision will have a negative impact on his wallet.
Having already missed an ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome this year, Alcaraz will forfeit 50% of his Masters 1000 bonus pool share this season. The 21-year old surpassed the bonus pool standings last year, earning himself a whooping 44.2 million. However, the four-time Grand Slam champion is unlikely to be too bothered, considering his hefty prize money earnings from winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
