The first
Red Bull Bassline event came and went with
Carlos Alcaraz defeating
Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
Ahead of the Vienna ATP 500 tennis event next week Stefanos Tsitsipas gathered 7 other players to compete at the inaugural Red Bull Bassline event in the Austrian Capital. Players started from the quarterfinals and worked from there in an event where each match consisted of best of 3 tiebreaks. The event was a light-spirited one that had music playing in the background which has never been done in this format.
Tsitsipas himself admitted it was hard to focus because of the music simply because it was too good. In the first quarterfinal, Opelka defeated Norrie. In the 2nd one, Alcaraz defeated Feliciano Lopez. Christian Garin took down Jurij Rodionov in the 3rd with Tsitsipas besting the native Novak. In the semifinals, we had Alcaraz against Garin with the Spaniard moving on and Tsitsipas who easily bested Opelka.
In the final, we saw Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas and the Spanish player proved better once more. It was very similar to their US Open match where Alcaraz proved problematic for Tsitsipas with his powerful baseline play. The relaxed atmosphere allowed the youngster to blast away and blast he did. A good win for Alcaraz who said after the win:
"I'm super happy with the win. It's incredible."
