Brooksby who announced himself to the wider tennis audience at the Miami Open Masters in March continued his slow ascension to the top of world's tennis over the summer. His best results came on American native soil where Americans usually emerge. However, that form continues in Europe where he plays at the Antwerp European indoor event.
His opponent event today was Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Brooksby once again dominated from start to finish. He took an early 3-1 play besting Fokina from the baseline with his consistent play. The Spaniard was rarely ever able to stay in the rally long enough. Brooksby was both precise with his strokes and aggressive however a lapse in focus when serving for the set allowed the Spaniard a chance.
A 5-2 lead became a 5-5 score with Fokina seemingly having momentum on his side. It did not matter as Brooksby once again reverted to some of the basic stuff he did earlier and it worked. He closed the first set with 7-5. Fokina was abysmal on his 2nd set winning only 4 of 15 points played. It was an even bigger mess in the 2nd set for the Spaniard.
His play was not terrible but Brooksby had all the answers and once again an early break of serve happened. That resulted in a 2-0 lead and it only got worse from there. The Spaniard was getting visibly frustrated and his focus completely evaporated which Brooksby used to close out the match with a bagel.
