Alcaraz withdraws from Rome.

Carlos Alcaraz had a tremendous week in Madrid reaching the final and beating Zverev in the final but it drained him enough for him to abandon playing in Rome.
Playing in Madrid and Rome is very tricky especially if you have a very deep run in Madrid the previous week. Alcaraz had a very deep run in Madrid reaching the final and winning the event. Getting there took some time as he played for over two hours on three consecutive days. Matches against Norrie, Nadal and Djokovic all lasted well over two hours with the latter two going over three hours as well.
He looked bouncy in the final and finished it off in just over an hour admitting afterwards that he feels great and he can play more. While that might be factually correct he opted to take a week off after Madrid abandoning plans of playing in Rome. It's only sensible considering he twisted his ankle against Nadal as well and while it didn't look to bother him nobody really knows the status of it.
He did briefly mention it after teh final saying:
"Due to the fall that I had with Rafa, the ankle, I had a problem, and this morning it was a little more swollen. And also I had a blister in my feet which was a little bit infected, and it's been a little bit tough start of the day. It was difficult for me to walk. I think that you know, given the state of my feet and my ankle, I am really excited for fighting for a Grand Slam. I think that it's better to rest, to recover my ankle, recover my feet, to be in Paris at 100 per cent."
With the French Open not far away, Alcaraz should pick his spots carefully because he will be one of the favourites for it considering his current level.
Alcaraz withdraws from Rome.
